  • Oil Tax - Tax on Fuel Oil (MATA995 - SIGAFAT)

In Puerto Rico, tax on fuel oil and its by-products are processed as follows:

  • During product inflow (Law 5), the tax is charged for every standard barrel established in the legislation (42 gallons). During outflow (Law 172), the tax is charged for each gallon.
  • The tax value to be charged is changed from time to time. Since August, 2001, the value is US$ 4.00 per barrel during inflow, US$ 1.00 per gallon for amounts until 55 gallons, and US$ 0.60 per gallon for amounts over 55 gallons during outflow.

Based on this information, the following configurations must be made for tax calculation:

  • Tax Configuration - SFB
  • In the field Tax, the content ACE - Tax code (fixed) must be entered.
  • In the field Tax Rate, you must enter 4.00 (tax value charged per barrel during inflow - defined by the government).
  • Product Register – SB1

In the field Oil Conversion (Oil Conversion Factor), you must enter the product conversion factor in the first measurement unit for gallons.

 Example:

X ounces of oil * Oil Conversion Factor = Y gallons

If the first measurement unit is the gallon, you do not need to fill out the field.

  • Parameter MV_ACESAI

This parameter must be used for tax calculation during outflow.

The content must be entered with the following structure: amt#value1#value2, where:

Amt - it is the amount of gallons that defines the tax value.

Value1 - it is the tax value to be charged per gallon for an amount lower than or equal to amt.

Value2 - it is the tax value to be charged per gallon for an amount larger than amt.

 Example: 55#1.00#0.60
