Configuration of Check Printers


This feature is available in the Microsiga Protheus® System from version 7.10 onwards.

Available Mechanisms

Financials module uses two different mechanisms to print checks:

  • SIGALOJA.DLL - developed by the Commercial Automation team. It is fully in charge of communications between the system and the check printer.

Note:

DLL facilitates the communication between the system and the equipment, and requires internal technology development.

Important:

To print checks using these options, you must keep the Smart Client DLL of the Store Control module up-to-date, as well as drivers from the manufacturer.

The System does not automatically install the DLL when Active X is in use. Therefore, you cannot use the printers.


  • DIRECT TO PORT PRINTING - the Financials module sends all commands to the serial (COM?) or parallel (LPT?) port without going through the Store Control module DLL.

To test printing using the ports, use the Checks Printing routine of the Financials module.

By using the system to print, a list is displayed containing similar printer names. Each printer uses different communication methods.


Communication Mechanisms

In most cases, check printers use the communication via serial port (COM?). Some printers allow the computer to use a parallel port (LPT?), and there are also those that accept both types of connection (one cable for each port).

The system sends basic check data to the printer, such as:

  • Bank code
  • Name of the beneficiary
  • Value
  • Issuing Municipality
  • Date of Issue

Configurations for check models of different banks are stored in the memory chip of the printer itself.

Example of printers that receive direct command in the serial port (COM?) from the Financials module

To print checks through these options, neither specific configuration nor intermediate files, such as DLL and drivers is required.

Fiscal printers with check printing functionality (called Special Check Printer in the system)

Some hardware have both fiscal printer and check printer features. Such printers use the DLL printing mechanism from Store Control and also print direct to port.


Important:

The printers table is updated whenever new homologations occur and/or the technology changes.

Important:

You must activate all check printers using the Store Control DLL printing mechanism in the Financials module. Upon activation, some parameters specific to Financials are configured.


System Operation Default

The System default prints directly to port.

Exceptions to operation default

Bematech and Olivetti PR-45 printers present specific documentation with full descriptions of their operation.

The printing routines for XTP and DATAREGIS printers are available only for DOS versions 2.06 and 2.07.

Important:

The term agent meant, up to version 6.0x, the internally developed technology that configured communications between the System and the equipment. From version 6.0x onwards, it was replaced by DLL from the Store Control module.

Configuration of digits concerning the year in the checks

To print the four-digit year in check printers, the parameter MV_CHEQ4DG indicates whether the system must send four digits to the printer.

System default is N (sends only 2 digits).
